How to Hot Girl Summer: The Ultimate Guide to Glowy Skin
Welcome to my new series on how to elevate your Hot Girl Summer game this year
Let me start off with what “hot girl summer” means to me (shout out to the original hot girl Meg the Stallion). This is not about looking your hottest ever or losing weight. So many of the summer tips and tricks backed by influencers are really just thinly veiled ads to sell you something new or make you feel bad about your body - I’m over it.
So here’s the first installment of How To Hot Girl Summer… the by fran way.

A season to shed all the energy that the grey days and cold weather had us absorb. It’s about moving into a refreshed and healthy, version of ourselves. New habits, vitamin D and celebrating yourself as you are right now.
This isn’t to say I don’t like winter. I actually love the winter months for getting cozy, resting, baking and getting into holiday spirit. But now it’s time for sunshine, iced coffee and lathering on the SPF.
Summer also means showing a little more skin that’s been hidden away under chunky knits and thick tights. This is when I whip out my trusty glowy skin method to make sure I’m ready to shine in my breezy summer dresses. Let’s go!

Tip #1 - Health
Let’s get the obvious tips out of the way first. The best thing you can do for healthy skin is get good sleep, drink lots of water and protect yourself from the sun. So make sure to tackle those key factors first since they are the most important. Now on to the fun stuff…
Tip #2 - Exfoliate
Exfoliating is one of my fave beauty habits. I think this must tie into my clean freak tendencencies… I just like a good scrubbing, what can I say? I’m a big fan of a gritty exfoliator that will get rid of all the dead skin cells to better absorb moisture. If you a prefer something gentler, that totally works too.
Tip 3 - Moisturize
Time to hydrate your freshly exfoliated ultra-soft skin. If you have some time to pamper yourself, start with an oil while your skin is still damp and follow up with a rich body cream. If you’re tight on time, mix the oil and cream for an equally lovely effect.
Pro-tip: I love to practice gratitude and positive affirmations while moisturizing. I thank my body for all that it does for me everyday even if it feels small. Some examples below:
Thank you for keeping me healthy and energized
Thank you for being so beautiful
Thank you for making me feel so wonderful
Thank you for allowing me to relax
Thank you for being so strong
Tip 4 - Shimmer
This is where the magic happens - the shimmer! If you want subtle glow, you can add this into your body cream but I like to layer it on alone for a more intense result. I like pick ones that pair nicely with my perfume to ensure I smell extra delicious. Lather yourself up and get ready to feel like the most delicious, glowy glazed donut there ever was.
